Sydney Crisis and Homeless Accommodation

If you are planning to plug into services in a different state there are a few things that you may want to consider first before you start latching on to day dreams. It is impossible to book crisis or hostel accommodation prior to arriving in most circumstances. Some services and only if you have extreme needs may make arrangements with their interstate partners but in most cases they are somewhat reluctant to do so.

You have to hit the ground running and hope for the best. Like most crisis accommodation it is seasonal and socially and economically driven. There may be a lot more beds in Sydney and other states; but there's never enough, the demand is very high and they are usually filled by mid- morning so you have to start ringing or turning up very early. Some of the larger hostels in Sydney do Accommodate up to 200 people.

It can get pretty crazy at meals and in the morning so you have keep a close eye on things; be assertive not aggressive. Run your own race nail your shoes to the floor; stand over your washing; keep your cigarettes and other valuables out of sight!. There will be people with challenging behavior and in worse shape then you, so when you start taking the moral high ground remember where you are and why.
